- We provide 90-minute small group tutoring, which provides individualized attention for each student. The groups are no larger than 3 students and depending on a student’s needs, the session can exceed 90 minutes.
- A solid academic base from K-12 is essential for success in higher education and necessary for achieving a high G.P.A for college admissions. Rockville C.C.B. provides this fundamental instruction from elementary through high school. We provide material that works in conjunction with the curriculum students see in their schools in Montgomery County, including the Common Core Math and English curricula for elementary students.

Our test preparation is an active and dynamic process for the student and for our office. We target your student’s weaknesses by evaluating the difficulty level they struggle with the most.Our method of individualizing test preparation and taking in student feedback week by week has demonstrated amazing score improvements.
AP Tutoring

For students struggling in their AP classes, we provide tutoring to support them during the school year. Falling behind in these rigorous classes can be an overwhelming and discouraging experience. We recommend that students work with C.C.B. earlier in the school year if they can, but we absolutely provide our expertise later in the year as well. We have a strong program in preparation for the various May AP exams as well.
Essay Writing Tutoring
Improving essay writing is a skill that requires steadfast practice long-term. We provide fun essay-writing classes with a tutor to improve your child’s critical thinking, ability to generate a well-constructed response, grammar, and vocabulary. Our philosophy stresses a strong foundation, and we encourage students to begin working on these skills earlier in their academic careers.
Essay:
- Book Club(3rd~6th)
- Students meet regularly, discuss, and write about challenging concepts.
- Literature Essay (7th ~11th) / Topic Essay (3rd ~12th)
- Students are given 2-3 pages of literature or an informative passage on a specific topic and are asked to discuss and write an essay response to a prompt. Literature essays help improve their reading comprehension and critical thinking. The tutor will nurture the student’s ability to formulate a thoughtful and organized response, which are important skills for standardized preparation and for higher level English courses.
- Magnet Essay (8th)
- Students will establish their ability to read a prompt and respond in an organized and logical manner. This essay writing course prepares the student for the essay writing portion for the magnet exam, as well as for rigorous magnet English courses.
- SAT/ACT Essay (11th ~12th)
- Students specifically work on the skills required to succeed on the writing portions of the SAT and ACT. Each class will add to the student’s repertoire of grammar and vocabulary.
- College Admission Essays (12th)
- Students will work 1:1 with an experienced college admission essay editor. Students are recommended to have written their essays beforehand and focus on editing during these sessions. However, they are also welcome to meet with the tutor to formulate ideas and write together. We recommend enrollment in this class in a timely manner to adequately prepare for the November 1st early admissions and/or priority deadlines for schools like UMCP and UMBC. We also provide this valuable service throughout the winter in time for regular admissions.
SAT 2 Subject Tutoring
- Math, Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Korean, Spanish
Students work with a tutor for targeted and focused preparation for SAT 2 subject tests. This class will have a focus on regular practice tests for the respective subject test.
Magnet Admission Test Tutoring
- We prepare students for the 5th and 8th grade magnet admission exams held in December. Tutoring will cover all three batteries of the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) as well as the essay portion.
- The verbal battery includes verbal analogies, sentence completion and verbal classification.
- The non-verbal battery includes figure matrices, paper folding and figure classification.
- The quantitative battery includes number analogies, number puzzles and number series.
- Students’ progress will be tested with mock magnet admission exams.
Homework Help
- C.C.B. understands that students may receive heavy demands from school in the form of homework. We offer tutoring to help your student finish and understand their homework after-school or during the weekend. Homework can come from any subject
- We especially recommend this tutoring class for students who are spending excessive time doing homework, which can negatively impact a child’s self-esteem and accumulate stress during the school year.
